Chevrolet Impala

The Chevrolet brand from the stable of General Motors, the largest automaker in the US, has many unique models in its armory, which have captured the eye of the passionate automobile lovers. A new brand, Chevrolet Impala was introduced into the market in 1958 by General motors, primarily as an upgrade for the already existing Chevrolet Bel Air.

The new Chevrolet Impala is designed as an upmarket, sporty vehicle with a unique feature of six taillights. This is a novel and path-breaking design, quite contrary to the normal two lights in the front and rear sides of the vehicles in the market at that point of time.  The six taillights feature of this new model, Chevrolet Impala, was a success in the market, which culminated in Impala being regarded as a trademark. Another interesting aspect of Chevrolet Impala is its body-on-frame construction. For this frame, a typical X frame has been used.  The six taillights were distributed evenly, three a piece, on both sides. In addition, Chevrolet Impala had simulated air-extractor vents provided on each of the rear fenders, adding more value to style and luxury.

The unique designing of Impala has resulted in the model emerging as the top model from the stable of General Motors in the year 1958.  Not only was the Chevrolet Impala stylish in looks, but also had the capacity and power much higher than those prevalent at that time, making it a muscle car and also the first of its kind in the muscle car era that started since 1958.  Chevrolet Impala has introduced a couple of variations to its model in 1958, catering to the requirements of the customers. With regard to power, customers were provided with a choice to choose between 283-cid V8 engine or enhanced 348-cid V8 engine, both provided with 145-bhp “Blue-Flame” inline six carbureted and fuel-injection versions,

The other notable features of this Chevrolet Impala include, among other things, standard three-speed manual drive, triple-turbine Turbo-glide and two-speed Power glide, which are designed to further enhance the true experience of luxury driving. The Impala model had an option of convertible and included a two-door hardtop, somewhat similar to the Bel Air model.

The Chevrolet Impala, introduced as the top end option for Bel Air series of vehicles, was relatively wider as well as longer than other vehicles in the brand of Chevrolet. The stylish looks and the relatively large size of the vehicle enhanced the luxury aspect of the vehicle and was an instant hit in the market.  It is little wonder that Chevrolet Impala, filled with style, power and luxury appealed the most to the customers.  Despite a few shortcomings in the design which was subsequently eliminated, Chevrolet registered health increase in sales during its first year of introduction.

The interiors of the Chevrolet Impala were gorgeous in style and look, adding to the luxury aspect of the vehicle, catching the eye of the customers. The other notable features of Chevrolet Impala include air conditioning facilities, front disc brakes, heavy-duty battery, power steering, power glide and folding rear seats.
